As we approach the end of the year, the OFK Board wanted to give you all an update on what we’ve been working on! We have big plans, and are so excited to show you our ideas for how to make 2024 the BEST OFK SEASON YET!

2023 Board Reatreat

For a quick weekend in November, the OFK Board convened at Galiano Island for our season planning kick-off. The weekend included food, drinks, new and old friends, orcas, and one 8-hour meeting to brainstorm everything from sponsors, social events, on-field safety, and Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI). We formed almost 40 different sub-committees to keep our work organized! Lots of work to do!

Sponsors and Jerseys

The board has also been hard at work collecting the last few stragglers of last season’s jerseys. Missing jersey’s need to be ordered by year end to make sure we have them ready for our Jersey Party in April, so if you have a jersey stashed away, let us know asap!

We will also have two new sponsors this season, meaning two new sets of jerseys! Laura and Ian are hard at work designing new jersey sets, and we can’t wait to see them!

Indoor leagues

Registration for our Scotia Barn Indoor League happened on Wednesday, December 6th, and the roster filled up in 6 minutes! That has to be a new record …
Registration for the Henry Hudson Indoor League opened Wednesday, December 13th, sand quickly filled up as well. We’re excited so many of you wanted to join for the winter leagues!

Player Safety

One of the highest priorities for the OFK Board is the safety and wellbeing of our members. Over the years, we have heard feedback regarding decisions on things like on-field soccer gear, water breaks during extreme heat, concussion prevention, and air quality. Aaron and Kris have been working on a new Safety and Risk Policy to help us better make decisions and take action to keep everyone safe. Our goal is to have this available for you to read early in the new year, so stay tuned!

… and last but not least … Socials!

Our Social Director extraordinaire, Mark, has been thinking up a million different ways to make the 2024 OFK season a fun and social one! Per now, we are looking at 10 league socials for the season (time and locations permitting)! So clear your calendars, Spring/Summer 2024 is gonna be a busy one!
